Houston Stonewall Young Dems 2015 Election Report

On August 10, the Houston Stonewall Young Democrats (HSYD) held its annual endorsement meeting for the 2015 Municipal Elections. At that meeting the membership voted to endorse seventeen candidates in the races for Houston Mayor, Houston Controller, Houston City Council, and the Houston Independent School District.

Over the course of three months, HSYD co-hosted four fundraising receptions benefitting our endorsed candidates, and one fundraiser directly benefitting the organization which raised over $4600. Together, we hosted three phone banks for Proposition 1 (HERO) including a bipartisan effort in partnership with the Log Cabin Republicans of Houston.

In addition, for the first time in the organization’s history, HSYD administered a bilingual mail program, in English and Spanish, influencing 2,500 young voters, ages 18-40, across the city of Houston. Finally, HSYD was the only organization within the Harris County Democratic Party that marketed its organic and paid social media efforts toward both English and Spanish voters.

Out of the seventeen candidates endorsed by HSYD, twelve candidates were elected on November 3, or made it to the December 12 run off election.

Thanks to you and your support, our organization has become one of the fastest growing and most reliable organizations in the county. Let us all continue to work together to fight for equality, “…so that every new generation of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community may take its place as equal citizens of society…”
