Join us at Woodrow's Heights (1200 Durham Dr) for our May meeting as we continue to hear from Houston's 2015 municipal candidates Lane Lewis, Amanda Edwards, and Philippe Nassif.
Lane Lewis, candidate for Houston City Council At-Large 1, assumed chairmanship of the Harris County Democratic Party in 2011 and continues to lead the local organization today. Lewis, a social worker and former teacher now serves as chief compliance officer for a local charter school. In 2012 Lewis faced anti-gay attacks in the race for Harris County Democratic Party Chair as opponents feared the party would suffer if led by a gay man. Lewis has remained an ardent supporter and leader in the LGBT community ever since.
Amanda Edwards, candidate for Houston City Council At-Large 4, currently serves as an attorney at Bracewell & Giuliani and specializes in tax-exempt finance, urban development, and matters related to tax-exempt organizations. A Harvard Graduate and native Houstonian, Edwards found her calling for public service as she witnessed her father's fight with cancer and the failing health care system of the past.
Philippe Nassiff, candidate for Houston City Council At-Large 5, is a first generation American and the proud son of immigrants from Mexico and Lebanon. In Houston Nassiff has served the Annise Parker administration, the White House, and most recently a local non-profit dedicated to empowering women.
Come out and hear the candidates' vision for Houston.
